Who We Are
Read for No Reason is a fundamental literacy campaign serving children in North and South Carolina. Our mission is to help children develop and foster a love for reading in an effort to improve literacy rates and educational outcomes. We are passionate about empowering children to become successful readers, and we achieve this by providing various literacy programs and activities at no cost to children, parents, and educators across the Carolinas. Join us in our efforts to make a difference in the lives of our children!
About Our Founder
RFNR is a labor of love that is spearheaded by Sumter, SC, native, Dr. Alicia D. Dervin. The result of a prayer and a dream, Dr. Dervin created RFNR after reviewing literacy rates and testing scores in North and South Carolina. In refusing to accept that the way things were are the way they have to be, she has dedicated her life to this mission of improving academic outcomes for Black and Brown children. She is a dedicated educator and writer who currently works and resides in Charlotte, NC, with her family.
